Greetings NIS and BKX Sponsors, Mentors and Friends!
On behalf of the National Institute of Science (NIS) and the Beta Kappa Chi Scientific Honor Society (BKX), we announce the upcoming 2010 meeting “The Emergence of –OMIC- Technologies in Addressing Health Disparities”. The 67th Joint Annual Meeting of the NIS/BKX will be co-hosted by Dillard University and Southern University @ New Orleans (SUNO), March 24 - 28, 2010, at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel, New Orleans, Louisiana.
As you are aware, the meeting provides a wonderful opportunity for your students to present their research data. We are anticipating over 600 students, faculty, administrators and exhibitors from many diverse institutions throughout the nation to attend the 2010 meeting. There will be a new feature at the meeting designed, especially, for student-exhibitor interaction: Evening Exposé at the Marketplace to be held Thursday, March 25th. Exhibitors will have an opportunity, in a marketplace setting, to expound the benefits and advantages of their institution. Students will bring their business cards with them to the Marketplace to exchange with the exhibitors. The NIS will provide sponsors with materials to print their student’s business cards.
Another special activity planned for this meeting is the “Gentilly Clean-UP”. In lieu of workshops, we will undertake community out-reach projects. It has been four years since Katrina ravaged New Orleans. The recovery process has been slow and is far from over. The Joint Meeting would like to contribute, in some small way, to the rebuilding of New Orleans. So we are going to roll–up our sleeves for a few hours Friday, March 26, and get to work. All required materials for the clean-up will be provided in New Orleans, as well as the T-shirts we will be wearing. The NIS is providing funds for each school to purchase their caps. Participants will don their school caps and the NIS/BKX Joint Meeting T-shirt for the activity. You will be proudly representing your school as well as the Joint Meeting. Have you wanted to help New Orleans? Well, here is your perfect opportunity! We beseech you to lend a hand.
The High School Poster Competition of the 67th Joint Annual Meeting will be sponsored by Southern University at New Orleans. The coordinator for this session is Dr. Murty Kambhampati.
If you would like to bring a high school student(s) to present a poster at this meeting, please contact
Dr. Kambhampati (see contact information page attached).
The NIS is making an offer. The NIS will pay the registration fee + hotel lodging cost of each sponsor who brings 25 pre-registered primary presenters (non-abstract) to the meeting. Details on NIS and Joint Meeting website next month. Presently, the NIS is having a “membership fee sale” for a limited time. See the summer 2009 NIS Newsletter or NIS website for more information.
The meeting website will go live by mid-September. You will receive the official meeting Announcement Book by October 10th via e-mail and US postal service. For now, please download the accompanying two attachments that gives: 1) important dates and 2) contact information so you can plan and your students can began preparations to present.
